Don’t even waste your time with this property management company. Very beginning they seem to have great attitudes and smiles but towards the end you will realize that was all a lie. I rented from them on lazy ridge for almost 2 1/2 years, and was the worst experience of my life. From the heating going out and being told it was gonna be weeks before anyone could come to the ac going out and having a baby in the home and them not caring or reimbursement of having to buy multiple portable ac units to keep one room cool. The backyard was a disaster always and asking them to come out and me giving recommendations about what they should do, to then get a move out inspection sheet which they had lost the move in one, and be charged for backyard paw prints and mud, but asked multiple times about what we could do with that situation. If you are thinking of renting through this company don’t even bother wasting your time. It won’t go good and you will look like a fool in the end. Learn from my mistakes.
Gold Star Real Estate managed my rental property in Killeen for 11 years and I highly recommend Liz and her team of professionals. I appreciate every aspect of the service I received. I had great tenants placed by Liz and her team. I was provided great communication whether it was regarding a repair, a lease renewal, or any requests / inquiries I had. (Important to note, I live in a different state and different time zone. Thanks to the dedication of the team, this was never a problem.) I don't think there was ever an eviction, excessive damages, or any problems with any tenants. Regular repairs were made quickly and efficiently with itemized invoices. Overall, my experience was phenomenal. Thank you Liz and the Gold Star team!
I rented from Gold Star from 2008 until this month. They are by far the best property management company Central Texas! They were always helpful and went to great lengths to make sure things were always running smoothly for us. I've rented from other companies who treated their tenants like a number, but Gold Star treated us like old friends anytime we went into the office. If you're looking for a house to rent, I would definitely recommend going to them before anyone else!
We were tenants with Gold Star for three years; one my husband was single and two married. I will start this review off with the positives and then explain our move out experience with Gold Star. Gold Star was always easy for us to get in contact with whether it was phone calls, emails or in person we never felt ignored. They also carry themselves and speak professionally. When maintenance request were put in they were done in a timely manner, resulting in a solution. This gets me to a three star review. The loss of two stars was done after we left our property when we had money taken out of our deposit that should have not been our responsibility to pay for and a lack of in writing requirements. I am leaving our experience below in hopes it will help someone else know what they are responsible for. I do not believe Gold Star is a bad company they just need to be more transparent and put requirements in writing. My husband and I work hard to make the home move out ready. We did every item requested on their check out sheet along with verbal requests. Their move-out sheet states “normally a bottle of Windex, a roll of paper towels and extra light bulbs will aid you a great deal in the inspection. A few missed items will not result in a full cleaning charge” but they will charge you for light cleaning. They professionally offered to send over pictures and they did. The pictures consisted of one small dot on the counter and dust on the counter that looked like the left over fibers from my scrubbing with a paper towel. Also, a picture of a few tiny brown dots on one of the blinds however, that one blind warranted being charged for the cleaning of all ten blinds. Other photos were sent too with the same pattern; small little details you would have to hunt for to notice. Just know, don’t pay for a professional cleaner to come yourselves because they will charge you for cleaning. Our final disappointment was being charged for the cutting and removal of a shrub in front of the property. When we asked they first said it was taller than the requirement. We informed Gold Star the only height we were ever told was below the roof line and checked our lease to be sure; no requirements were stated. They then stated that in the past (could not tell us when) that someone called and spoke to one of us that we needed to cut them. Neither my husband nor I recall any phone call and they have no documentation of this call/notice. We would have cut the shrubs based on this request and continued to cut them if we had received that phone call. At our pre-inspection, the property manager told me to edge again and trim a tree which we promptly completed. There was never a mention of the shrub that is right at our front door that she came through..... When we asked about the charges for the bush we were told that they can hold us to items that were not state at pre-inspection. Since we were not at the post inspection (moved to a new duty station) we had forfeited our rights to fix anything before being charged. None of this is in writing on the move out sheet for us to have known. In conclusion we are disappointed in our ending experience with Gold Star. Knowing what we put into making that home move out ready, based on Gold Stars' verbal and written instruction, was carried out in full and complete good faith. It worries us how Gold Star may treat other tenants and take larger amounts from their deposit. Also, beyond that tenants who are military families or veterans that Gold Star is aware have to leave a duty station on quick notice and usually under stress. This is leaving their hands tied in disputing changers and invoices that are taken out of their deposit when they leave Texas. Get everything in writing with Gold Star. Video/photograph your home and condition at move in and move out. Keep track on a calendar who you speak to. Advocate for yourself or find resources to help you if you find yourself in a similar situation.
Avoid this place at all costs and if you happen to do business with them, keep accurate records. I was a trucker and rented a couple years ago. Moved out of state and had to handle most of this nightmare long distance. They replaced an entire dishwasher for not being able to get 1 magnet off the front. In the the end they blew through the security deposit and racked up even more charges. Finally received a notice saying that an owed amount was going to collections. I called and paid to avoid the account from being sent to collections and they sent it anyway. This place will try to scam you out of all the money they can.
