Had a horrible experience with Bobby Jr., who was the landlord’s broker for a property we wanted to rent in Jersey City. After viewing the two-floor site with my broker and Bobby Jr., he told us the initial rent price. As the LOIs were going back and forth, he raised the price of the site - he literally started to ask for $20 more per square foot, since he first told us the price. Not only that he ended with saying that the price would be $20 more per square foot and that he would seal off the top floor. To make it worse - we initially thought that we had concluded our deal. Bobby told my broker that our latest offer was accepted and that our broker could congratulate us. Weeks later, instead of sending us the lease to finalize everything, he called my broker and told her that the price went up - again (and that the top floor would no longer be included in the raised price). We were shocked. If he was honest about the price from the start, we would have never made an offer to start with and would have gone to another site. Because we relied on his word we lost other potential sites, since we decline them, and wasted many months (and thus had to delay our business’s opening date). I have worked with alot of brokers but I think this is the most unprofessional experience I have ever had. I would never do another deal if Bobby Jr. or his firm are involved. I highly suggest that those working with him make sure all of his communications with him are in writing so they are also not screwed over.
